OCT / OCULAR COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY

OCT is an imaging method used to generate a picture of the back of the eye, called the retina. OCT is routinely used to image the eyes of patients with glaucoma, and we are proud to announce that we have acquired this technology to further the scope of Dalton-Brown Optometrists to help with the diagnosis of Glaucoma and Macular diseases.

Dalton-Brown Optometrists specializes in full comprehensive eye examinations of the eye for defects of refraction(vision)  and detecting eye diseases. Patients are provided with correctional lenses and/or eye exercises and a management strategy for anomalous eye conditions. Comprehensive eye examinations will also include tonometry, the test for the intra-ocular pressure of the eye to screen specifically for glaucoma, slit-lamp examinations to screen for dry eyes and other external eye conditions and ophthalmoscopy to screen for cataracts, diabetes, glaucoma and other pathology.

CONTACT LENSES

Our contact lens examinations will include fitting soft disposable contact lenses and rigid gas permeable lenses (hard contact lenses) as required for the correction of refractive errors. We also supply colored contact lenses and daily disposable lenses for cosmetic and therapeutic management of eye conditions. We specialize in fitting rigid gas permeable(hard) contact lenses for correcting vision in patients with keratoconus.

A full comprehensive eye examination includes screening for pathologies such as diabetes, glaucoma, hypertension, cataracts, and much more. Slit-lamp examinations and ophthalmoscopy with drops to dilate the pupil results in a thorough examination of the external eye and the back of the eye providing detailed information regarding ocular health. These results collate to determine the best approach for optimal eye care for our patients.

CYCLOPLEGIC REFRACTIONS

A cycloplegic refraction is a procedure used to determine the complete refractive error by temporarily paralyzing the muscles that aid in focusing the eye. Cycloplegic eye drops are used to temporarily relax the ciliary body/focusing muscle of the eye to obtain the best corrective lenses required. This procedure is sometimes used in eye examinations for children. 

ANCILIARY TESTS

Full comprehensive eye examinations will include an assessment of binocular vision, color vision testing, depth perception testing, ocular dominance and much more. The results are used for completion of vision reports for driving licenses, firearm licenses, etc.

TONOMETRY

Tonometry measures the intra-ocular pressure of the eye. This test is used specifically to screen for glaucoma and forms an integral part of our full comprehensive eye examination.

VISUAL FIELD TEST

Our Visual Field Testing (VFT) machine is used to detect early visual field loss efficiently and easily. The optometrist will recommend VFT if there is a family history of glaucoma or if there is an indication found during the full comprehensive eye examination. Glaucoma is an eye disease which could lead to blindness if not detected early and managed. Early glaucoma detection is critical for a good prognosis
